CAM Archives — Licensing requirement for Community Association Management Firms

The Department of Business and Professional Regulation issued licensing requirements for Community Association Management (CAM) firms effective January 1, 2009.

All CAM firms must obtain a license from the department. A CAM firm is defined as a business engaged in management of community associations for compensation when the association or associations served contain more than 10 units or have an annual budget in excess of $100,000. Each CAM firm must designate at least one licensed Community Association Manager to respond to departmental inquiries and investigations. CAM firm licenses renew on September 30 of odd-numbered years. Operating without a license is unlicensed activity subject to penalties ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 minimum to maximum, and potential reprimand or license revocation.

Community association management firms that manage associations with more than 10 units or annual budgets exceeding $100,000.

Effective January 1, 2009.
